Justice For Ian Potterton

“My name is Ian Potterton, and I am a, for want of a better word, victim of the Australian Federal Police in Thailand. I am raising the necessary legal funds to have a case for the claims and statements made against me by the Australian Federal Police in Thailand. It is my true belief that they attempted to kill me.”

You may not yet have heard of this story. Ian Potterton has been the center of a case against him in Thailand that would never have stuck in Australia. He has never been stopped by police officers in the Philippines and never was questioned over any criminal matters. Despite that, a three page letter was given to the Thai authorities that requested that they act on behalf of the AFP.

A family that he was staying with was threatened and abused, pushed into signing a pre-written complaint against him. Sworn testimony from an AFP officer was made in a Thai courtroom, but there was no evidence included with it. There was, on the other hand, blatant perjury and innuendo that has been harmful.

With no criminal convictions in his past, Ian has been trapped in this heavy-handed case. The AFT officer John Tanti gave testimony without evidence, claiming only that Ian would face charges upon return to Australia. But zero has been heard from the AFP.

Support for Ian’s case will take AU $313,000 to start with. As of 2022, the federal balance is $2,961.61. Ian wants to take the AFP to court not only for this case but for how they have overstepped in others. He alleges that the AFP have acted in revenge and retaliation against him, because he had, in the past, made negative comments about the way the AFP handled cases.
